Surgical Suture
Papilla stitch is the term for a special wound stitch in the area of the gums. The papilla is the gum triangle between your teeth. This area is relevant for a harmonic appearance of the gums. After oral surgery, the dentist tries to restore this area to avoid scar building. This succeeds best if the wound edges are adapted finely with papilla stitches. In the past, the precise incision during gum surgery wasn't considered that important. Due to a better knowledge of the tissue’s blood supply, it is nowadays tried to avoid scars during the surgery. The gingival line incision and the papilla stitch ensure an a-traumatic procedure. You won't have scars and therefore no further complications afterwards. The only thing remaining will be your beautiful smile! Watch the video above to see how a papilla suture is done!
