In the field of dental science, smooth and polished surfaces are created by the dentist using different polishing elements. For instance, a rough tooth surface after the placement of a filling is more prone to bacterial infection and hence, must be made smooth. Successful dental procedure are rated on two important criteria’s; firstly the absence of pathogenic bacteria or infection and secondly the restoration of smoothness. Micro leakage a common and imminent threat after a dental procedure can occur perhaps after every filling edge thereby allowing bacteria to spread out in the mouth and causing caries and plaque. Hence, it is imperative that dentists make the tooth surfaces as smooth as possible using different grinding materials. Some dentists even make use of a polishing paste which gives a highly glossed look to the smoothened teeth. This is done when one gets a ceramic inlay or a gold tooth inlay and the final look should look symmetrical. Watch this video to know more about polishing materials.
