Pain in the Jaw
Jaw pain, is any kind of pain or discomfort in the jaw region, like the mandible (lower jaw or jaw bone), the temporomandibular joint (TMJ or jaw joint), and all bordering soft tissues. The jaw joint brings the lower and upper jaws together. Needless to say, that the temporomandibular joint is one of the most used in the human body. Jaw pain can be acute or chronic like facial pain and can be caused by extensive gum chewing, talking, long mouth opening at the dentist´s and stress. Some people have more sensitive joints than others. Sometimes, just being conscientious of your jaw movements, avoiding chewing gum or hard food as well as taking breaks during long dental treatments is sufficient to prevent pain. More about joint pain, facial pain and lockjaw in the video MAP.
