Dental Impression Material
(32150 Views)
Alginates are widely used by dentists all over the world as impression material for producing dentures and jaw casts. These are salts of Alginate acid which when mixed with water form a smooth, non-toxic material which hardens quickly. The alginate powder can be mixed with water manually by hand or using special alginate mixers. After removing from the patient’s mouth, the impression has to be immediately washed and then poured with plaster. Once the plaster has hardened, the impression is removed from the plaster model and analyzed. This can give the dentist/dental technician a good idea of the patient’s teeth and jaw condition in order to produce a perfect denture. Care must be taken during the process of transport, storage and processing of the Alginate salts in order to preserve its functionality and thereby to achieve a precise impression. This video will throw more light on the use of alginates as impression material.

they should really add a touch of flavour to these impression materials... how much nicer would it be to have an impression made using bubblegum flavoured material!? Sugar free of course ;)
