Dental Cyst - Cystostomy
(22285 Views)
A Cystostomy is a dental treatment that consists in removing a dental cyst. A cyst is a pouch of tissue filled with fluid or pulp that can form next to or around teeth. ‘Cystostomy’ means ‘opening the cyst’, whereby the volume of the cyst is reduced. In dentistry, a Cystostomy is only one way to medicate a cyst. Dental cysts are commonly a result of infections in the pulp or inner portion of the tooth, or caused by faulty root treatment. Regardless of the cause, a dental cyst should always be removed and tested in a dental laboratory to ensure that it is of benign nature and doesn't contain cancer cells. Learn more about the Cystostomy procedure in this video. Here you can see LIVE OPERATION Cystostomie.

The cystotomy that is referred to here is also called "marsupialization" and is extremely effective. Similar to "shrinking" a large malignant tumor with radiation prior to surgical excision to preserve surrounding anatomy and decreasing morbidity afterwards.
Bone grafting and membrane placement for guided tissue regeneration is a very common technique that ensures good bony consolidation and eliminates hard tissue defects post cyst removal.
