Wisdom tooth infection

Dear Doctor,

One month after my wisdom teeth extraction, my jaw had swollen. My dentist said, I got an infection. He opened the socket, cleaned it out and packed it with a gauze. He gave me antibiotics. I was not able to take it religiously, I forget sometimes but I was able to finish it. After a week I am already off antibiotics but it seems I am not quite healed yet. I have a lump on my jaw and it hurts when pressed. Has my infection healed correctly? Do I need more antibiotics?

I hope to hear from you soon and thanks a lot.

Did you take antibiotics while you were recovering from the tooth extraction? I am having the same problem even though I took antibiotics. But it has only been two weeks since my tooth was extracted.

Hi everyone!

In such cases you shouldn’t experiment around yourself, the best bet would to to find and visit a doctor.

You wouldn’t want to risk incurring a serious bone infection – also known as osteomyelitis.
