Wisdom tooth extraction

Hi,

I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted 2 weeks ago, the two upper ones were fine but the lower one was impacted into the tooth in front of it and so it had only partially errupted through the gum. Anyway 2 weeks after the surgery the two upper ones have healed over (the gum feels completely smooth to my tongue) but where the lower one was removed there is a hole left in my gum which food residue can get stuck in. On the follow up visit to my dentist 2 days ago he said the hole was normal and healing fine and gave me a syringe to wash out any food residue. Shining a torch into my mouth though I can see something white at the bottom of the hole and squirting salt water into the hole with the syringe is not dislodging it and I am now thinking that maybe it is not food at all. Could it be a small part of tooth that wasn't removed, or something else ? If it is a part of the tooth does this matter or will the gum just heal over it ?

Thanks

Dear Usjes1,

however strange it may seem to you, it is impossible for a patient to check an extraction site, especially if it was a wisdom tooth that was being extracted. Trust your dentist and follow his/her instructions ;)

Best regards
