Which tooth should go?

Dear all,

I already have all my teeth in except for my lower wisdom teeth. My top jaw has straight teeth, but on my bottom jaw, my right canine had rotated. It had been pushed a bit forward from the rest of my teeth. The gum around this tooth had slightly receded.

I can now feel that my bottom right wisdom tooth is coming in and crowding my other teeth. My front bottom teeth are becoming crooked. My question is, if I am going to get braces to straighten by bottom teeth, which tooth has to be extracted, the canine or the wisdom tooth? Is it possible to keep both teeth? I don’t go to the dentist often because of financial reasons.

I would love to hear your insight and advice before I’ll book an appointment. Thanks a lot.

Dear,
Ortho treatment does not always need extraction of teeth. It is based availability of space in in your dental arch. This space can be created by:

1) moving teeth forward
2) moving it back
3) slicing teeth
4) pushing them on side
5) Extraction of tooth

So, extraction is not the only option. Your Orthodontist will decide if the wisdom tooth needs to be extracted or not. Usually dentists do not remove canines as they have very strong root and they are also esthetically important. Extraction of tooth really depends on lot of factors and they usually consider it if other four options are not viable in your case.
Best of luck for your future treatment!
