What could be the cause of my jaw and ear pain?

Hi Doc!

I have been feeling pain in my right ear for a few days now. The pain is starting in my jaw and radiating out to my mouth and ear. I can barely open my mouth and my jaw hurts more when I chew. I also get real bad headaches and dizziness on and off. Today, I noticed an increased jaw pain that extends from my jaw to the front side of my ear. I took some Motrin but it didn't help a lot. What could be causing this pain? I do have wisdom teeth coming in but I am not sure if they are causing the pain. Please help me. Your comments are greatly appreciated!

Yep, very typical symptoms for erupting wisdom teeth. See your dentist quickly to plan removal. NO MEDICINE ALONE WILL CURE YOU.

Jaw pain, limited opening (trismus), radiating pain to the ear, etc. are all pretty much the usual symptoms one would experience with a partially impacted wisdom tooth that is suffering from pericoronitis (which is essentially, inflammation of the tissue around the wisdom tooth due to poor oral hygiene or mechanical trauma).

The only definitive treatment to your scenario is having that tooth extracted as soon as you can. Meanwhile, you could try getting on antibiotics to help control the infection and use saltwater/ hydrogen peroxide rinses to keep the area clean. Be well!
