Upper and lower jaw pain

User Level:
Patient

I wonder if you can help me. I have just gotten over mumps but I still have extreme pain in my left jaw area which travels along the lower jaw and upper jaw from the hinge to the front teeth. It is extremely strange as it just appears while eating, not always though mostly in the morning and evening. the only thing that relieves the pain is pain killers which I really can not live on. I can not see any cavities with my naked eye but wondered if you could assist in telling me what it could possibly be. It is so unbearable that it makes me want to scream and cry out in pain

Dear Michelle!

There are many possible causes of your pain but this sounds like a loose filling, or a sensitive tooth neck or a combination of these and possibly something else. The best thing you can do is go and have it checked out by a dentist.
