Unbearable pain from an abscessed tooth

Hi there!

I am scheduled for a root canal on my abscessed tooth next week. The dentist said, the tooth was infected and I need to finish my antibiotics before he performs the root canal treatment. I noticed that the abscess becomes bigger as days pass by and the pain is getting worse. Does infection swell up while it is being cleared? Can I request for a root canal now even if the infection is not cleared up yet? I can't seem to bear the pain anymore.

Please help!

Thank you for your response!

Hello Iamwriter,

I can totally relate to what you are going through now. When I had an abscessed tooth, the dentist made a hole in the gum and he drained the infection. This relieved the pain. Ask your dentist about this procedure.

Hello iamwriter!

Im sure your dentist will treat you accordingly if you let him/her know that your issues are getting worse – especially as you are the one suffering!

I suggest you call your dentist and try to arrange an appointment as soon as possible!

All the best!
Liebe Grüße JB

Hello Iamwriter!

The dentist can start the root canal now and leave it open and drain it out. A root canal can be done while the infection is still there.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I'll ask my dentist if he can drain it out.
