Traumatized tooth

Hello!

A week ago, my nephew accidentally hit my mouth with his ball. One of my front teeth was very painful. The dentist did a hot and cold test and the result said my tooth is fine. The dentist asked me to wait and see if the pain will go away after a few more days. Now if I touch the tooth or if I run my tongue over it, it hurts so bad. I can bite down or eat hot and cold without any problem, though. I can only feel pain when I put pressure on the tooth. Could I have just traumatized my tooth? Will the pain go away eventually or do I have to visit my dentist again? Please advise me. Thank you very much.

Hello,

You may need a root canal treatment to save the tooth root from dying. A traumatized tooth normally do not respond to electrical or thermal stimulus because the nerve inside it is already dead.

If a tooth was traumatized, the inflammation may spread along the root of the tooth very fast and there is a great chance that you will lose the tooth. You should keep the tooth clean. Go back to your dentist or visit another one.

I had the exact same problem however I'm not sure what I did for my tooth to hurt so much. I thought I had an abscess and booked an emergency dental appointment a week after I got the pain and she did the whole tapping the tooth and asked me to bite down onto a cotton pad to see if it hurt, then she xrayed my tooth and she said it was healthy and all I had done was traumatised my tooth, all she did was give me 4 days worth of penicillin to take and it's started to clear up :)
