Tooth implant

Hi there . Can you tell me please how close the implant should be to the gum. I just had an implant and it's a couple mm far from the gum and my dentist who did it, said that's normal.such an implant will never be as a natural tooth and close to the gum. Of course it's not cosmetically noticeable as that implant on the back but I think it's shouldn't be like that . Any professional opinions please.

The implant itself should be about 2mm below the gum. However, the healing cap screwed onto the top may be even with the gum or a little above the gum.
