Tooth chipped off after cleaning

Yesterday, I went to my dental hygienist for my regular dental check-up. I go there every six months. He said I have plaque build up in between my lower teeth. He scraped them away. Today as I look my teeth in the mirror, I noticed a horizontal chip in my lower front tooth. I called the dental office about this and they booked me next week to have this checked.

What would have caused my tooth to chip off like that? Does the scraping done by the hygienist have something to do with this? My teeth are healthy and well taken-cared of. Any idea?

Thanks so much!

Probably, it has already a crack in it which happened to come off during the time they are cleaning your teeth.

Hello Ladayred,

I remember the hygienist mentioning that lower front teeth do get horizontal chips. I am still waiting for my appointment. Thank you for your answer.
