Tongue problem after extraction

User Level:
Patient

Hi,
I had a top molar extraction ten days ago. It was a difficult extraction because the roots were too curved. I’ve swelled the first three days. I was put on antibiotics and the dentist gave me a mouthwash, which I used about five days. Three days ago, I noticed that my tongue seemed like furry and white. It does not hurt but it’s quite bothersome. Could this be an effect of the mouthwash? Will it go away? What can I do to get rid of it? Please help!!! Thank you very much.

It's more likely to be a side effect of the antibiotics. Brush your tongue firmly with your normal toothbrush, from as far back as you can get (you may gag a little) to the tip, using firm strokes. Rinse your brush under running water every 2 or 3 strokes. Do this for about 30 seconds, morning and night. This should help to remove the tongue coating, and once the antibiotics are out of your system things should get back to normal.
