so im stressing out about my symptoms.. so i havent been officially diagnosed but i think i have tmj.. at my last denist appointment my dentist looked over my symptoms and made another appt.. so im waiting for that appt. but right now i have horrible facial pain.. my jaw hurts, it cracks on the right side every time i open it past the chewing point. and if i open wide like when yawning my right side shifts, cracks and you can hear creppitus. for the past week i have been having mild headaches but every once and awhile i get this stabbing unbearable pain in my head.. i feel like my posture is off. i can see that my right shoulder is lower than my left. i never feel comfortable holding my head straight.. my shoulders hurt.. and my left arm and leg feel numb.... the thing that is really worrying me though is that my left pupil seems to be smaller than my right.. they are both reactive but one is smaller.. i also keep seeing floaters in my right eye.. do these symptoms sound like tmj? im a 19 yr old female by the way.

The eye symptoms do not sound like any TMJ symptoms I have ever encountered. You might consult a neurologist.

Without a doubt, you have jaw and neck and shoulder spasm. A good start is to have a dentist refer you to a good physical therapist who works with TMJ. When you are stabilized, perhaps your dentist can either straighten your teeth via orthodontics, or construct a bite guard.

Imaging studies of your TMJ might be a help. You might have disc derangement or another disk abnormality.

TMJ is seldom completely cured. My wife has it, and she is a perpetual patients. The best most patients can do is control TMJ symptoms to an acceptable degree.

I would check out the following link; What is TMJ.

The actual name for it is TMD. TMJ is the joint where the pain is associated. So essentially everyone has TMJ, just not TMD.

It is a very common disorder and something you should have diagnosed. However treatment is very difficult and there is very little medically they can do. Mouth Guards for sleeping if you grind teeth, a non chewy diet, stretches all help. There is surgery available but you should probably wait until you are older.

First I'd find a Dentist with a JVA - Joint Vibration analysis - it's a 30 second test and it's non-invasive. This is a quick way to see how advanced the pathology is. TMD is known as "The Great Impostor" because it can disguise itself in many different areas of the body - causes an array of symptoms. Some of your symptoms may be TMD related, others may not be. While imaging (MRI, CT Scan) can give a good static pic of the joint, we'll want to know how/what is going on during function. Let me know if you need a good recommendation near you - I am well connected in the TMD world as I work with dentists who diagnose TMD.
