Teeth sensitivity weeks after cleaning

I went to my cleaning a few weeks ago and I had a different hygienist than I usually have. This hygienist was extremely rough on my teeth while using those scrapey tools. My whole right side of my mouth too and bottom are now in serious pain almost constantly. It feels very sharp and it's almost unbearable. I went back to my dentist today and they claimed it was my wisdom teeth making my mouth sore. My wisdom teeth have NEVER been an issue for me and suddenly after my cleaning with the new hygienist that was completely painful they claim it's my wisdom teeth? I don't but it. I'm not sure what else to do to relieve this pain.

It is hard to say. The cleaning could have triggered a virus ulcer outbreak which makes the gums extremely sore.

Is it the teeth that are sensitive, or the gums? Is it just one area, or all over?

Every once in a while the eruption of wisdom teeth is accompanied by a superinfection of bacteria. This condition is called "Trench mouth." It is very painful, the patient has a bad taste in their mouth, and very bad breath. This could also be a possibility. I have seen trench mouth when the wisdom teeth are just barely erupted in the mouoth.

It's difficult to say the actual cause for your pain. But in most cases, after teeth cleaning general soreness, sensitive teeth and bleeding gums are normal. To get relieve from this pain use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth to help treat and prevent tooth sensitivity, and avoid eating foods or drinking liquids that set off your sensitivity. If your teeth are sensitive three or four weeks after treatment, or you have other concerns, contact your dentist for a follow-up visit.
