I've undergone scaling and root planning two weeks ago. After the procedure, I began to feel like my teeth are very tight. They hurt a bit when I apply pressure on them and they were extremely sensitive. My gums bleed sometimes and they seem receding more. Are these things normal after a deep cleaning? I also noticed that not all the tartar were removed. Can I ask for some more cleaning? Please help!

Hi Avr,
After scaling and root planning, it is normal to have a bit of pain, some swelling and tenderness. You should be fine in the next few days. The bleeding should stop within 4 to 5 hours. Did your dentist ask you to go back after a few weeks? He need to re-evaluate the gums and check on the healing process. Yes, he can do some more cleaning if necessary.

It sounds like you are not fully healed yet. Make sure you have a good oral hygiene and you will be fine.

Thanks for your reply. He did not mention that I need to go back for the re-evaluation of the gums. I will ask him about that.
