Stiffness of the jaw

Hi there! For the past few weeks, I have been dealing with pain in my next to the last tooth in the lower right. Five days ago, the pain was pretty bad. My lymph node on the right side had swelled pretty big and I started experiencing some stiffness in my lower jaw. I went to the dentist and was told that the tooth was abscessed. She referred me to an endodontist for a root canal treatment.

The root canal was done the next day. My lymph node is still swollen and my jaw stiffness has become worse. I can’t open my mouth wide enough to take a bite. Should I be concerned about this or wait for it to be back to normal for a few days? Thank you in advance for your time.

If there is swelling, have the dentist lance it. If not, go on antibiotics. You are dealing with an infection that got started before the root canal, and may take some time to clear. In the meantime, put some hot packs on the affected side and try to stretch your jaw open wider each day.
