Something hard and pointy from my gums?

About eight months ago, I had my wisdom tooth from the top right side removed. Lately, I noticed that there is something sticking out from the gum above it. It got bigger and has become hard and pointy. It hurts to touch and it scrapes my inner right cheek. Any ideas what it is? I would highly appreciate any help!

When teeth are removed some roots my be left behind and with time these roots might erupt (find there way through the gum and come through) and because they are fractured they might have sharp pointy edges.
Another possibility could be some tiny fractured bones (something could happens sometimes with teeth removal)these bits of bone could erupt and come through with time.
I would suggest to see a dentist and have this properly examined and if this was the case then that could be taken out.

It is probably a chunk of bone. It can be removed fairly easily, possibly with topical anesthetic.

Thank goodness somebody had an answer! For the last couple of weeks I had an eruption in the bottom left rear jaw, where a wisdom tooth used to be (extracted more than 20 years ago). I have a small, very sharp piece of what I think is bone poking through the gum tissue. First I thought it was a burn from a tooth whitening gel, then we thought it might be cancer (I'm a smoker) but then when it became sharp and quite irritating on my tongue I looked it up online and found this post. I'm going to get it checked by a dentist next week but you've gone a long way to alleviating my fears. Thanks a ton!
