6 weeks ago i broke a tooth in half, i went to dentist who told me tooth could not be saved to i agreed to have it removed & was told i needed a filling at same time. I was put on 2 diff types of antibiotics but had no pain, On the day the filling went fine, then the dentist had to use lots of force to remove the tooth pulling & pushing i burst into tears by the end of the extraction. A week later i had to return & was told i had infection & dry socket , after the stress of having tooth pulled i opted to be sedated to have it cleaned out which i was told went well & i had 2 days left on antibiotics.

but by the weekend i was climbing the walls & saw a emergancy dentist & was giving more antibiotics i was also taken to the hospital where i was shaking & very hot which they put down to stress & how much pain i was in.

On week 5 i went back to my dentist cause it was still inflamed but he assured me there was no infection it was inflamed & id have to just wait for it to settle.

but yesterday which is a week off the antibiotics i noticed glands are up & have a lump on my ear id go see my doctor who told me after looking in my mouth & feeling my glands i still have a infection, the dentist is closed til monday so he give me antibiotics.

my so scared what happens now ? The red area is on the outside gum around extraction area. Still hurts & inside of my cheek is also swollen.

Thankyou await anybodys reply who may have had same.

Now you see how important it is to take care of your teeth so you don't have extractions with post-op problems like this.

There are a lot of resistant bacteria out there and antibiotics are not as useful as they were when I first started practice. Nevertheless, it is hard to believe you still have an infection 5 weeks after the extraction. I have never seen a post-op infection last that long.

Sometimes difficult extractions trigger muscle spasm. Could be that the lumps you feel are actually knots of muscles.

You impress me as a "fragile" patient who does not heal well nor tolerate procedures easily. My advice to you is to practice prevention from here on in with regular dental visits, so you never have to have so traumatic a procedure again.

I do brush my teeth twice daily & floss ! This was due to a broke tooth that could not be saved. I've been back to dentist & there was a fragment of bone he had to remove.
