Should I get a crown and implant?

Hi all!

I had a root canal done on my bottom left premolar today. The dentist filled it but he asked me to go back early next week to have a crown fitted on this tooth. The tooth beside the filled premolar was taken out about a few months ago and he said I should also have an implant there. I am already fine with the fillings. Would it hurt if I do not get a crown and an implant anymore? Please help!

Hello Timmy!

The dentist has recommended getting a crown because probably, there is not much left in the tooth. The filling would get fragile and would chip over time. The crown will make the tooth more stable. The implant would fill in the gap from the extracted tooth and will prevent the other teeth from shifting. So I suggest you get both the crown and implant.

Yes, I recommend you get both.

The crown allows you to protect and strengthen a damaged surface part of the tooth. The implant is the best thing you can get when you have a missing tooth. Since it is placed directly in the jawbone, it will stimulate bone growth as you chew thus preventing bone loss.

hi......Cosmetic dentistry is the branch of dentistry that involves dealing with the appearance of the teeth. So whenever you have anything to do with the cosmetic appearance of your teeth, for instance getting braces or having veneers put on, this is cosmetic dentistry work that you are going through with.
