Severe pain after a filling and root canal

User Level:
Patient

Hi all!

One year ago, my dentist did a routine filling on my tooth #18. Recently, I had a root canal done on that same tooth. He told me that we needed such procedure because my tooth was having a massive cavity. I had the usual pain after my root canal, but I still took some antibiotic.

When I was on a vacation my temporary crown came off. I got worried thinking my root would be totally exposed but when I called my dentist he assumed it would be fine.

My root canal became extremely painful when I had my permanent crown put on. I was taking antibiotics 2-3 hours but it could not give any relief. I went back to the dentist to complain about the pain. He and his assistant took my filling out to let my tooth rest. My dentist put me again on antibiotics for 10 days. It’s been five days and I don’t feel any better.

What could be the problem with my tooth? I believe that if my first routine filling was successful, my tooth would not be in this condition. Please help me!
