I had a white crown put over my silver crown, and my tooth was file down, but now any time I drink anything hot or cold i get an extreme pain. Is this normal? what can I do to fix it?

I am not a dentist, but speaking from experience it is normal. I am not sure why but they are very sensitive to the extremes, either heat or cold. This takes time to go away, sometimes a few months. I would avoid anything of either temperature that is extreme.

I cannot think of a time when we put a white filling OVER a silver crown. It would not even stick. Could you clarify what you mean?
