second molar extraction

Hi, I am 17 and I am getting my second molars extracted because my wisdom teeth are coming through (they're a bit slow!), but I have a small jaw so the second molars have to be removed so that my wisdom teeth can come through. I have recently had braces but they are off now, so I'm a bit worried that by having the extractions done it will ruin my teeth, plus I am a but confused, if someone could please help me out it would be GREATLY appreciated, I need the pros and cons of this extraction (: Thanks so much!

Hello!

Extraction of the second molar to give way for the wisdom teeth to come through is a good option, but you may need orthodontics again to make the wisdom teeth close up the gap previously occupied by the second molars.

Hi (:

Would the gap close by itself over time if I don't have an orthodontist close the gap? (:
Thanks for your help!

Hi!

I don't think the gap will close on it's own. My lower left second molar was extracted five years ago and until now, the gap is still there. Luckily, my teeth didn't move even if I have this gap.:-)
