I have well maintained teeth. I am over sixty. I have been told I have decay under the gum line of a tooth that has had a root canal. I want to try to save the tooth the dentist just wants to remove it and put in an implant. Am I being silly in wanting to save my tooth. She did not even mention that there was a possibility of saving it. Maybe it would be too much work for her. I don't like not having options. How successful would it be to try to fill and save my tooth. About five years ago they told me to have the tooth removed. I did not but for some reason my dental self care has not been as good! I am usually the "poster child" for great dental care.
Please give some feed back.
thank you.

Go to another dentist and ask him what he thinks.
We prefer to save as much teeth as we can.
In some cases if the caries spread very deep it's impossible to make a fill, so the doctors often advise to use a solution named INLAY.
Actually it's also a filling method but it's made by the technician.
It's a much more precise and stable than the direct filling made in the mouth.
Just to let you know,I had the tooth filled and all is well. I am so happy I got to keep my tooth! Went to my husbands dentist and he could not see why they wanted to remove it.
