Hi there!

I might undergo a root canal treatment on my molar in a few days and I am kinda nervous about the procedure. How do they do it? Does the procedure hurt? Please post your experiences here.

Hi Bill!

It's painless. Do not worry about it:-)

You will be numbed so you won't feel any pain during the procedure. The dentist will remove the diseased pulp of the tooth. He or she will clean the tooth with antiseptic. Once the canal is thoroughly cleaned, the roots are then filled. A temporary filling is then placed over the tooth then the top of the tooth is covered with a permanent filling or crown.

Cheer up!

I had one some years ago and it was not bad. The procedure is painless, you will only feel pressure and movement. Nothing to be scared about.

I love root canals. It's just like a filling but your mouth is open a little longer. I recommend that an endodontist does it - I've had many of them - more than 10 - having had very sensitive teeth with genetically thin enamel and alot of fillings after eating mints for years.

The specialist might cost a little more - 100-200 - but believe me it's well worth it.

It's not any more painful than having a filling - it's just different because they have alot of stuff in your mouth and it's open for a longer period. the specialists do it faster and because that's all they do, they have special equipment for it and you usually have a better result.
