Root canal treated tooth becomes brittle

Hi Doctor,

Recently, I had a root canal done on one of my front teeth. The tooth has a hole and the dentist
put a temporary filling on it. However, I noticed that this tooth is becoming brittle. It hurts when I touch it. I will have it permanently filled next week but I am now having second thoughts. Is it worth putting a permanent filling and a crown on a brittle tooth? Would it be better to just extract it? I want to know if all these problems will go away once the tooth gets enough protection.

Thanks a lot!

Dear Shannon!

Don’t worry about it too much; I am sure your dentist would not recommend treatment that would be detrimental to your health.

If you are unsure about anything then just ask; if you are not happy with the answers or something is still unclear then find a few more dentists for some more professional opinions and then act accordingly!

All the best!
