in january, 2011, i had an apicoectomy on a root canaled tooth, with an abscess. six months later, the abscess returned. the surgeon performed another apicoectomy. he said, apicoectomie sometimes do not work. and the second is less likely to work than the first. (he didnt charge me for the second.) the second didnt work either.

i understand sometimes a second root canal can be performed on teeth. i was wondering if anyone recommends this.

Kudos to the nice dentist who did it for free a second time.

The problem may be a cracked root which cannot be repaired. If he knows which root is the problem, he can amputate just that root. But really, these days, extraction, graft, and implant is probably the best idea. Every time you do an apcio, there is the potential of losing bone.
