Questions about gingivitis

Hello Doctor,

I suspect I have a gingivitis. I notice when I brush my teeth that my gums are receding. They are painful and my teeth are very sensitive. Is gingivitis curable with a good brushing and flossing habits? How long will it take before it turns into a periodontitis? How do I stop the gums from receding?

I look forward for your answers. Thanks a lot!

Hello!

If you are female, it is a common occurrence that the sensitivity of your gums along with the bleeding can fluctuate depending on your hormonal cycle.

If you find yourself bleeding constantly, even with proper oral hygiene, then I would seek out a periodontist!

My dentist told me I have gingivitis which is probably caused by my pregnancy. My appointment for the cleaning is in 2 weeks time. What can I do to treat it while waiting for my appointment?

Hi Courtney,

It helps if you follow a good oral hygiene routine which includes brushing, flossing and mouthwash rinses. Keep this even after your teeth are cleaned.
