Patient

Over the past few months I've noticed my gums Have started to turn purple. They don't hurt or bleed. They have just turned a dark purple. I am a heavy smoker, could smoking cause this?

Purple tends to indicate an decrease in blood oxygenation. Is your skin on your body a greyish color? Really, I have never had a patient have their gums turn purplish, but I guess anything is possible. Might consult a physician to ascertain blood O 2 levels.
