Pulling teeth back together

User Level:

Hello:-)

My teeth were never perfectly straight. They even got more crooked as I got older. I finally decided to have them fixed and so I went to the dentist to ask if I could get braces. Well, he said I needed them badly. He told me that I needed 4 teeth extracted.

I had the extraction 6 weeks ago. Yesterday, the orthodontist put on a coil and a tightener to pull the teeth together. How long is it going to take for the gaps to close? This is a very painful process and I really want to know how long I will have to endure it. Please help!!! Also, what are some things to eat with sore teeth? Thanks!:-)

Hello, depending on the extend of how crowded your teeth are the orthodontic braces are usually planed for 1-2 years. Each time you visit your orthodontist he will tighten and you will be sore for a week or so. Eat soft foods such as mashed potatoes, yogurt, and other foods that do not require extensive chewing. Make sure to floss and maintain good oral hygiene while you have the braces not to get caries.
