Problems with fillings

User Level:
Patient

Dear all,

I had a cavity filled on my top molar two weeks ago. The next day after I got the filling I had severe pain in my jaw and gum. The dentist did some adjustments but I was still in pain. The painkillers would only help for a while. When I went back to the dentist, he removed the filling, re-drilled and filed the tooth. It has been a week since the tooth was refilled and I am still in pain. The tooth is also very sensitive to cold and I could not eat well. How long will this take to heal? I wish I had never had this done before. So many problems have come up and I am afraid of more problems that could arise from this. Any advice would be great!

Let me guess. You had one of the white plastic fillings put in, the type that leak like crazy? Endodontist love dentists who use these fillings in back teeth, by the way.

Have him take the filling out and temporarily fill it with a good-sealing material like glass ionomer. If that does not do it, it is root canal time.

And next time you need fillings, find a dentist who still does amalgam and gold fillings in back teeth.
