Problem with my bridge

Dear Checkdent,

Late last year, my second upper left molar was broken off. It's non-repairable so I had no choice but to have it extracted five months ago. After a few days, the filling of the molar adjacent (first molar) to the extracted tooth fell out. I ended up getting a bridge. The temporary bridge gave me problems. It hurt a lot when I chew. It was sensitive to hot and cold. Last month, I got the permanent bridge. I was not comfortable with it. It felt really tight, I still cannot chew on it. It became more sensitive to temperature. I went back to the dentist to have this checked. He adjusted the bridge but the pain did not go away. I visited an endodontist who recommended a root canal on the first and third molar. I am having second thoughts on this. Any idea? I need more opinions please!

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello tracu!

It sounds like your dental nerve could have gotten damaged during the tooth polishing, this can happen sometimes. Your endodontist is correct; if that is the case, then a root canal procedure is necessary.

However, if you are unsure, then get a couple different opinions from several doctors; ideally in writing, then you can go through them in detail at home, and compare the different therapy options.

All the best!

Thank you Doc. I would get more opinions before making a decision.

Hello Tracu!

I was into a lot of sensitivity and pain when I had my bridge. The nerve was still alive which caused the cold sensitivity. My dentist did another root canal and everything went well.
