Pregnant and need cavity filling, is it safe?

Hi, I'm new and need some urgent suggestions. I am into the second trimester and I've got a bad cavity problem. I got my tooth ache last year but avoided it so badly. Now I was not able to control it and went to see a doc near by, Dr. Stephen Phelan, Oakville, and showed him the problem. He suggested cavity filling, but I'm not sure about it. I don't want chemicals in my mouth and if something goes wrong and I swallow it, I don't want my kid to get bad reaction to it.
How safe are fillings?

Its fine. most OBGYN's will give you a consent form and probably tell the doctor no epi. swallowing would be the least of your worries anyways, since we are injecting you with the numbing meds that goes into your blood stream. Most of the time for x-rays they just double the lead aprons.

You don't want any "chemicals?" Everything you eat is made of organic chemicals.

I fill teeth in pregnant women all the time. Epinephrine is no problem, but you cannot have laughing gas.

It is impossible for x-rays to make a right turn and expose the fetus. A double lead apron serves no purpose.
