Hello,

Ten days ago, I had a root canal on tooth #12. The procedure went well until five days later, I noticed a lump on the gums around that tooth. It hurt when touched. As days went by, I got more radiating pain. I went to the dentist two days ago to have it checked. He drilled on my tooth to check if there is a missed canal. He said he found nothing wrong. Up to this day, the pain is still there. The lump has gotten larger and my face had started to swell as well. I was put on antibiotics for a week. What should I do to deal with the pain? It seems getting worse each day. Please help. Thank so much.

Dear,
It can be because of
-missed canal
-overfilled canal
-under-filled canal
-perforation
or anything else. I would advise you to visit endodontist and get his expert opinion. Swelling after root canal is not normal and there should be remaining infection which needs to be taken care of.

Have the lump lanced. Chances are, the pus will drain out and everything will heal very quickly. Many times during a root canal bacteria get pushed out into the surrounding bone, and a bad infection results. They resolve quickly if you lance it and obtain pus drainage.
