Post placement in a root canal treated tooth

Hello Doc!

I had a root canal done recently on one of my upper teeth. After the procedure, I was expecting the dentist to insert a post to support the crown as what my cousin's dentist did to her when she had a root canal treatment and a crown. I did not have the courage to ask him about this before. How risky is it to be without a post on a root canal treated tooth? I do not want to lose this tooth.

Please advise! Thanks!

Some teeth do not need posts after rct, especially if there is enough tooth structure,if you had the rct because of fracture tooth post most likely will be contraindicated.

Hello!

A post will not always be inserted after a root canal treatment. The dentist will only give you post when the tooth structure is lost and there is no enough support for the crown. I suggest you get a crown put in. A root canal treated tooth becomes brittle. The crown will save the tooth from fracture.
