Dear Doctor,

I have an implant, which consists of two posts, with a lower denture that fits over them. Two weeks ago, one of the posts fell out. Now the other post is loose and the gum is infected and swollen. The dentist said I probably have a poor immune system that’s why I got infected. I didn’t have a bone graft done prior to the implant because I was told that my gums were poor. Should I have the implants replaced? Please guide me on what’s the best thing to do. Many thanks.

You have only one implant to support a denture? That is unusual. Usually two are the minimum to support a lower denture.

Hard to say from your post what has happened. Have the implants come loose or the screws come loose on the implants. If the screws, it is an easy thing to solve. If the implants, you must regraft and put in another implant. Are you a diabetic? Diabetics have a lower success rate with implants than do even smokers.
