Painful lump and swollen jaw

Hello!

I had the first part of my root canal treatment on tooth #30 three days ago. My regular dentist performed it. He wasn’t able to finish it due to too curved root, which was hard to reach, and he asked me to see an Endodontist. Since I have been on antibiotics before the procedure, the dentist did not give me antibiotics and painkillers anymore. When the numbness wore off, the tooth was very painful. Today, I woke up with a swollen jaw and a painful lump at the bottom of the tooth. I will be seeing the Endodontist in three days. Are these the effects of the uncompleted root canal treatment? Should I take antibiotics until my appointment with the endo? Please help me! Thanks!

Have your GP dentist lance the lump and see if he can obtain drainage. It might be from the unfilled curved canal, or it may just be a post-op infection that sometimes occurs after starting a root canal. Tell the endodontist you would like to see him earlier if he has any cancellations.
