Pain in the right jaw

Five days ago, my jaw on the right side hurt extremely badly. It seems to get worse in each day. I have tried applying heat on it and gently massaging it but the pain did not go away. Muscle relaxant did not help either. Yesterday, I have difficulty in eating because I can’t open my mouth wide. I am now having headaches and earaches. Is it possible for TMJ disorder to be on one side only? The left side does not give me any pain. What else can I do to ease the pain? I would highly appreciate any help.

It is possible that TMJ is only one side, but the fact that it does not respond to muscle relaxants means it is probably something else. An erupting wisdom tooth or an abscess are two possibilities. A dentist needs to check it out.

Thank you for your quick reply. My wisdom teeth were all extracted 5 years ago. This morning I got salty taste from the part where my gum and top second molar meet. There is no visible swelling in that area.
