Pain after the extraction of a root fragment

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have the following question:

On Wednesday night, I experienced pain so severe (a pulsating pain) that in the morning, I went to the dentist right away. He said that it was caused by a left over root fragment and he removed it. He also inserted a small rod (?) which he will remove on Monday. Since he’s not at his practice today, I wanted to ask you a question: I still have the same pain (throughout last night and right now). I went to the dentist approximately 20 hours ago; is this normal or should I go to a different doctor?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Unfortunately, not all roots or root fragments may be removed in a complex extractions. I have been into this. The dentist made an incision into the gums around the tooth, raised a flap of tissue to expose the tooth and its surrounding bone and removed the remaining root. He then sutured the flap tissue back in place.
