Pain after filling, is this normal?

Hello Doc,

My cavity was really deep on one tooth and I just got it filled three days ago. When I woke up this morning, I felt something uncomfortable in my mouth and it was really painful. I noticed it was the sensitive tooth. When my bottom teeth rub against it, it hurts so bad. Biting a food didn't hurt before until the filling was done. Is this normal? Please help me and thank you in advance.

Dear arlmancs!

If the filling was very deep-rooted and/or the dentine wound very large, it could be that the dental nerve got damaged during the filling procedure.

In the worst case you would have to undergo root treatment, to save the tooth and get rid of the pain. Ideally, visit a dentist sooner rather than later!

Hi Doc,

Thank you for your answers. I never thought it's this serious. I'll have an appointment tomorrow.

All the best!
