Pain after filling and pulpectomy

Dear Doctor,

One of my bottom front teeth was chipped and the tooth beside it was broken in half. The chipped tooth was filled two days ago. My dentist opted for a pulpectomy on the broken tooth before he'll do a root canal treatment because it has an infected pulp. Should I still be in pain after two days? My gums also hurt, much more under the tooth that had the pulpectomy. I've been taking painkiller but it is not of much help. Any idea why my gums are hurting and what can I do to ease the pain?

Thanks a lot for your time in answering my questions!

Hello dustin89!

If a dental dam (coffer dam) was used, it could be that the coffer dam clamp damaged the gums during treatment.

Likewise, it could be due to a paro-problem, or even an abscess.

I would wait a few days, however, if the complaints get worse then go to the doctor immediately.

Also very important is that you undertake proper oral hygiene.

All the best!

Hi Doc,

Thank you for your answer. I gave it a week but it did not get any better so I decided to consult the dentist. It turned out I had an abscess. The root canal treatment solved my problem.
