OK not to do this restoration?

The back side of my tooth #25 has a small chip at the top, not visible from the front; it has been this way for year or so.

Question:

Recognizing that it's hard to advise without seeing the tooth, I'm wondering if it's ok *not* to do a restoration.
Since the chipped area gets a lot of contact from my tongue, perhaps the chances of decay there would be greatly reduced? And I can easily avoid biting on anything hard with that tooth.

I'm skeptical that a filling there would last, so the option would probably be a veneer.

Thanks for any input.

This is the hardest area in the mouth to make bonded restorations reliably stay put. I often leave these unrestored, merely smoothing it off with a rubber point to make it smooth to the patients' tongue.

Thanks--it's very helpful to know about that option!
