Nicotine, Oral Ulcers & Cancer Fears

Hi, I've had a small ulcer under my tongue for about a week now and didn't think much of it until I started Googling around and read this:

Now I'm really worried that it might be something serious, maybe even oral cancer. I'm a smoker (about half a pack a day) and have been trying to quit for years. I guess this is a wake-up call to get my nicotine habit under control!

But first I urgently need a diagnosis. Where do I go to have this checked out - the dentist or a doctor who is specialized in cancer? Does anyone have experience with this?

Dear Linda!

I think it will not be a cancer ... I think it´s just an Aphthe ( If the ulcer will not heal in the next 5 days, go to a hospital with an OMS department (oral-maxillo-facial surgery).

PS: stop smoking!
Liebe Grüße JB

Hey, thanks for the quick response. I'm relieved to hear you think it isn't cancer! I guess I got a little paranoid after reading so much about it on the web. The blog here actually calmed me down, somehow it's not nearly as fear-mongering as other dental health sites.

So now I've started rinsing my mouth with sage tea (as suggested in the article) and it's feeling a little less sore already.

PS: :-) I know, I've seriously got to stop with the cigarettes, wish me luck!
