My retainers are cutting my tongue, help please!

Hello,

I got my braces out 3 days ago and I just got my retainers on the top and bottom earlier today. They are kind of rough around the edges. They are cutting the edges of my tongue and it hurts when I talk. Is this just because they're new and my mouth needs to adjust to them? Or do I need to go back to the dentist so they can sort them out? Thank you.

go back - they may need to soften the edges of the retainers

I think you should go back and let them know. You have to get them adjusted.

You should definitely get them adjusted. They should not be cutting your tongue.
