Every now and then I have a hard circular lump below my ear, and right over where my jaw connects. Could this be some kind of infection? It is painful when pressed.

I also have a hard lump on the roof of my mouth. It hurts when I swallow food or drinks. It also hurts when I touch it.

Please help as I am starting to get worried. Thanks!

Dear mehungee!

The lump could be a lymph node that is reacting badly due to an infection. Often it is the result of a wisdom tooth that is displaced.

Ideally you should have a dentist take a look at it.

All the best!

You know I had exactly the same problem 3 years ago. A small lump formed under my jaw, and after a month or so it started secreting pus as well. I had loads of x-rays and scans and stuff and because no explaination was found, finally the doctors decided to operate. So after my operation all was well for a couple months and then it happened again - in the same place! After numerous consultations finally one suggested I have a dental scan and bingo - they saw I had a root canal infection, and that was the source of the problem! That was taken care of and all was well. So I suggest you have it checked out before it gets serious, and also make sure all angles are covered so you dont end up having a useless operation for nothing!

I also have these little bumps in my mouth, which I think are mouth ulcers. They don't hurt and can't really be noticed without looking thoroughly. I'll have it checked then.

Thank you for this thread:-)
