Low crown putting pressure to the tooth beside it

Hi there,

I recently had a new crown on tooth #20 and it unfortunately was too low causing all of the biting pressure to come crashing down on tooth #19. My dentist suggested a root canal for tooth #19 to relieve pain and pressure. Does this make sense? We’ve also tried to reshape the high spots on tooth #19 but this is not helping. This is frustrating and I just want to know if there’s a better way to solve this problem. I would be grateful for your help!
