Losing another molar

Hi,

For the past couple of months, I have been experiencing pain in my tooth #30. The tooth was broken several years ago. My regular dentist said the tooth needed a root canal. He referred me to an endodontist. He also said the tooth was badly broken down the gum line. He said a core build-up and crown would not be possible and the tooth has to go.

Should I go to another endodontist for a second opinion? I wouldn’t want to lose this tooth. My tooth #31 and #32 were already extracted. Thank you.

The endodontist cannot make the decision. A restorative dentist has to.

In the old days, we routinely used to do gum surgery to lengthen the tooth, a root canal, a buildup, then a crown. We still do that many times, but more often we extract, graft, and place an implant. Which to do is a clinical decision that must be made by the dentist that restores your tooth or your implant.
