Loose post in a tooth which has undergone RCT

Good day Doctor!

I had a root canal done on one of my front teeth 8 years ago. A post had to be placed inside the root canal because a large amout of the tooth structure was gone. Last year, I had an accident and the posted tooth became loose. I went to the dentist to have it re-cemented. After a couple of months, the post became loose again and had it re-cemented again. Is there a cementing material which can keep the posted tooth in place for a longer period of time?

Thank you for your answer!

Hi!

A post usually will not come loose without reason. Maybe the tooth root took some damage, eg. a root fracture, or maybe the post itself was too short.

If the post is not long enough then the remedy is simple – it needs to be replaced with a longer one. If you have a root fracture, unfortunately in most cases the tooth is beyond saving.

All the best!
